PV2 Andrew Pike moves his Stryker's remotely operated .50 caliber machine gun while SGT Philip Kauther tests the gun system at the National Training Center in Ft. Irwin, Calif. on Friday, July 26, 2002. The army has only had the Stryker for a month and this is their debut in maneuvers at 'war' at Ft. Irwin for the Millennium Challenge 2002 Experiment (MCO2)...The Stryker has a communictions package, called the FBCB2 that enables them to transmit and receive data on their position, the position of other FBCB2 equiped vehicles, still shots from unmanned aerial vehicles, and data from higher command. This will help improve their intelligence knowledge and share in real time with other units...As part of the military transformation MC02 is testing all branches of the military in the largest ever live and virtual battle being played out across the nation through August 15, 2002. The goal is to see how well the different branches operate together under a joint command that shares intelligence and resources in an effort to put the right forces in the right place at the right so as to minimze the amount of fighting that is necessary to protect U.S. interests abroad.
